When getting a kitten when you have a dog, you can try to feed them on opposite sides of closed doors for a week. The doors should be made from solid materials so the pets cannot see through it. Both the dog and kitten will start to associate each other smells, sounds, etc.
When the dog starts to bark, you should calm it by saying ‘no!’ Even without the pets are looking at each other directly, you can expose their presence slowly from the smells and sounds.
